Today is day one of wearing a front pack with KB nestled inside. It's been all of 20 minutes and already I'm seeing reasons this isn't going to work. I have committed to giving it an honest try so... it's gonna be a long day.
Reasons for the long day-
1. My back hurts. I made myself some breakfast and before I got done spooning the yogurt into the bowl my back was heading towards serious pain.
2. My shoulders hurt. The straps are pulling on my shoulders and causing discomfort.
3. KB doesn't like it all that much. She wants to be held, but she doesn't like that her feet are dangling. Once I pull them up against me, she's okay. But then I don't have free hands and I may as well hold her without the front pack.
4. I don't feel all that confident in the security of the front pack. I feel like I have to hold it when I walk or it might fall off.
5. It doesn't hold my baby in one place. When I sit down or walk around KB kinda jiggles inside the front pack. She may just be a little small for it, but I'm not sure that is really the case.
6. I look ridiculous. Okay, that's not really a good reason but I'm being honest.
Since typing this post the back and shoulder pain have gotten to be ridiculously high, so the pack is coming off. I know I said I would give it a try, but I can't be in pain all day. I would rather hold my child and not have a free hand then feel like this. I can hold KB all day and not have an ounce of back, neck, or shoulder discomfort. This front pack is going bye-bye!
What you need is a wrap of light, breathable material that has a little stretch horizontally, but not vertically, if that makes sense. I had one from Gypsy Mama that was great. I wish I hadn't of sold it! The even distribution of weight from the material gets rid of any pain from straps and whatnot. The only bad things are the learning curve it takes to become comfortable quickly putting them on and taking them off. Also, the sheer amount of material can be overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of a lot of people that like wraps and slings more than the back (or front) pack style. Having never experience a baby carrier (or my own baby!), I have no advice from experience except that if it's not working for you, don't do it. No one's going to complain about you holding KB with your arms instead of with various apparati. :)
