Happy Birthday Miss KB!!!

Two years ago, our sweet Miss KB girl made her entrance into our family. My water broke the night before with no contractions. I woke up with small contractions and notified our midwife. She said as long as I felt fine, I could go about my day. I took a shower, got dressed, tried to eat breakfast, threw up and breathed through slightly stronger contractions. Papa had school finals to deal with and was supposed to leave that morning. He rescheduled them and washed our bed sheets.

Contractions started getting a lot stronger really fast and I asked for a bath to try to slow things down. Our midwife was on her way at this point, but she lived 30 minutes away. Michael was getting a little worried since I was having a hard time breathing through two really strong contractions (little did I know at that point that KB was crowning). I checked myself while I was in the tub and felt KB head. Everything changed in that instant. I felt this immediate rush of peace and calm. I was in control and I knew that my body knew how to have this baby. Michael took a slightly different approach and got on the phone with the midwife to tell her to get here as fast as possible. He was absolutely adorable while trying to deal with the realization that his baby was about to be born at home in a bathtub without a midwife or any other help. (Note: We were planning on a homebirth anyway. But our plan included a midwife and birth assistant). As soon as my body relaxed, KB slid right out into the bathtub and into my arms. I lifted her right up to my chest and sat down. Michael had his back turned the moment KB splashed into the water and he stopped in his tracks and said (to the midwife on the phone) “Betty, I heard a plop.”

I directed Michael to turn on the heat lamp and get the clean sanitized towels that were prepared a week or so before (Thank goodness!) KB protested a bit about being born in cold water (I wasn’t planning on having her in the tub and I was hot and trying to cool down). Our midwife arrived shortly after and transferred me and baby to the bed. We realized that I hadn’t even checked if KB was a boy or girl at that point. Priorities. :)

This birth experience was one of (if not the most) spiritual moment in my life. I felt divine guidance and comfort throughout the entire contraction and birthing process. I am so thankful for such a sweet birth and baby that came to our family.

Miss KB is such an adorable sweet toddler now. She loves puzzle, books, animals, and music. Her favorite food is pizza and noodles (at separate times of course). I am so grateful she is a part of our family and love watching her grow and be excited about the world. She loves grass and running around outside. She is painfully shy around people most times, but loves to play with kids. Happy Birthday Miss Katie! We love you soooo much!
