My father in-law celebrating his birthday with us this month. The dinner was seriously the best one of the year thus far. Mr. Llama is very talented with his smoker/BBQ and smoked a chicken and a ham for our dinner. Don't worry, there were plenty of leftovers to get us through the week... or two. We also had au gratin potatoes, green beans, and wheat rolls. For dessert, I made a tres leches cake. It is a yummy moist, soaked in three milks, topped with fresh whipped cream cake. It was my first time making it and it thankfully turned out yummy!
Our sweet KB has always been shy with her grandpa. We have tried to gently get her to open up and acknowledge his presence in the room. Since moving to CO and spending more time with grandpa, KB has improved the relationship, but it was still strained..... Enter Old Maid cards. KB and I had played occasionally mostly by Go Fish rules. She had even played a time or two with Papa, but nothing consistent. I'm not even sure how it happened, but next thing we know KB asks grandpa to play with her every time he comes over. They sit on the floor, shuffle the cards, and start the process of matches. It is seriously the funniest game ever played. KB plays mostly by Go Fish rules, but adds her little rules in there that are constantly changing. I am grateful KB found something to help make her relationship with her grandpa a lot smoother!
Tidbits that aren't a smidge as funny as watching the real thing....
KB: You have an elephant?
Grandpa: No. Go fish.
KB picks up a card and exclaims: I don't have a dog!
Grandpa: Do you have a dog?
KB: Sure I do.
Grandpa: Do you have a stork?
KB: Let me check. (lays all her cards down one by one and finds a match in her hand) I have two roosters!
Grandpa: That's good. Do you have a stork?
KB: I don't have one, Grandpa.
Grandpa draws a card and KB draws a card too.
KB: Ask me.
Grandpa: It's your turn. You ask me if I have a card.
KB: I ask you?
Grandpa: Yes.
KB: Okay.
