The following is just one incident in a year and a half's worth of mouse tales we have lived through.
Bubbles was up again.
Mama looked at the clock and saw the unsightly hour of 3am. Sighing, she reached over and comforted Bubbles. Then a loud snap jolted Mama wide awake. Oy veying under her breath, Mama knew the mouse trap had snapped another mouse. Trying to go back to sleep while feeding Bubbles, Mama kept hearing the sound of the trap moving. She tried to wake up Papa, but only halfheartedly. The mouse would still be alive and trapped at the more reasonable hour of 6am when Papa normally woke up. A few minutes later, that trap sounded like it was jumping all over the kitchen. Mama could not go back to sleep with that crazy mouse trying to escape. Eventually the house was quiet and Bubbles was sleeping again.
A couple hours later, that felt like a minute, the blaring alarm clock woke up Mama enough to tell Papa there was a live mouse caught in the trap.
At breakfast, Mama asked Papa about the live mouse. Papa said the trap was empty when he got up. Great, Mama thought. Another mouse running around the house.
A few days passed with no caught mice. Mama refilled the trap with a swab of peanut butter and waited another day.
In the morning, Mama checked the trap and sure enough there was a dead mouse in it. Doing a victory dance, Mama felt guilty for celebrating the death of a creature.... a split second later, Mama was back to doing a victory jig.
Trap: 100+
Mice: ???
